Giving Birth to an Idea – Part II – The Journey
I spent the next two weeks in London smoking Hookah, partying until dawn, and sleeping past noon. It was one of the best trips of my life and soon after I found myself in the land of my birth, Persia (Iran). I landed at the international airport, at that time it was Mehrabad, and didn’t know what to expect. I was in Persia two years before, but the country was changing almost daily and no one knew where politics and destiny were moving the country and the people.
I was back in my birthplace and I was coming off a trip that introduced me to things, people, and places I only dreamed of—travelling kicks ass. I was excited to be back in Persia and I was looking forward to this trip, especially since my uncle was about to move to Canada and was leaving me his apartment, his car, and his misplaced trust.
Since I was now a Hookah fan, I sought it out wherever I could in Tehran. There are places there that rest on the banks of fast-moving rivers that are fed by runoff from the Alborz mountains that border the north of Tehran. You can sit there and have the best kabob you’ve ever tasted amid birch and elm trees, festive lights, and happy people, who all have a Hookah and hot tea. It was in places like this that I realized, and experienced first-hand, the power a Hookah has to bring people together. We don’t usually share a spoon, a fork, or even a glass, but we almost always share the Hookah hose—this connects people.
Over the course of the next three months, I threw many parties throughout Tehran and in every situation I tested my skills as a Hookah fan (it would take time to become a Cloud Master). When I got back to the United States, I continued to hone my skills and began to think of ways to make the Hookah experience even better. I added things to the base, mixed different flavors of Hookah Tobaccos together, and thought about ways to innovate and invent improvements. Sparx would be a reality!
